BUILDING AND BYLAW ENFORCEMENT REPORT
RECOMMENDATION:
THAT the Committee receives this report for information;
CHIEF ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER'S COMMENTS:
I concur with the recommendation.
PURPOSE OF REPORT:
To update the Committee on the operations of the Building and Bylaw Department.
BUILDING:
The focus for the month of February has been working towards compliance and resolution with properties that are in contravention to Bylaws and Codes. Hours of research, report writing and gathering legal advice has gone into various properties and projects. Complimenting this work, the research into better and more efficient ways to promote and sustain a safer community through a soon to be presented Safe Premises / Nuisance Bylaw has coincided well.
Follow up on existing permits and preparing for the move to the new home of the Building Department has occupied an equal amount of time and the anticipation continues to build.
BYLAW:
Focus for the month of February has been heavily involved with the monitoring of the "40 Day of Life Vigil" (February 18 to March 29, 2015) as well as meetings with Westshore RCMP, Island Health to discuss roles and law surrounding the vigil and responsibilities. The working group has been in daily contact and information is being shared amongst the group. The vigils which occur two times a year (February and October), continue to involve a tremendous amount staff time in answering complaints and investigating allegations.
The quarterly regional licensing meeting in Central Saanich was attended by the Licensing Clerk. The next meeting will be in May and will be hosted in View Royal.
