First Nation's economic development project

Ralmax is pleased to announce that it will be opening two businesses, a landscape supply center and recycling drop-off depot at the corner of Hallowell Rd and Admirals Rd. Site preparation has begun on the vacant property commonly known as the Esquimalt Nations 'Triangle site'. This parcel of land has been predominantly used as a location for fill material from local excavations, though in recent years, the property has also attracted some illegal dumping and unauthorized camping. The new business ventures will provide responsible and convenient new services for the broad community under the proven expertise of Ellice Recycle and Trio Landscape Supply Centre.

The Ellice Recycle (Ellice) facility will provide a local option for recycling plastic, cardboard, glass, paper, newsprint, drywall, yard waste, and steel. Ellice will also accept household waste that is to be contained in a sealed compactor. It is important to note that there will be no processing of materials on the site. This location is a collection point only for recyclable materials, and is a retail location for landscape supplies. The Trio Landscape Supply Centre will offer a comprehensive variety of yard and garden needs including sand, gravel, crushed rock, cement, bark mulch, cedar chips, soil, compost, decorative rocks, slate, concrete patio stones. A small retail location for hand tools and other gardening supplies will complement the offerings.

Both business enterprises are committed to minimizing the environmental impact of operations while helping to enable the continued environmental responsibility of residents. Ellice voluntarily certifies to the international standards of ISO 14001 for Environmental Management, OHSAS 18001 for Occupational Health and Safety and WorkSafe BC's COR Program.

This project will create nine temporary construction positions and eight new full-time jobs. It will also provide the Esquimalt Nation with a valuable source of revenue from land that has been vacant and neglected for many years.

The site layout has been designed to have limited impact on Hallowell Rd and new landscaping along Admirals and Hallowell Roads will aesthetically soften sight lines and provide a welcoming entrance. The anticipated opening for the Trio Landscape Supply Centre is April, 6th 2015 and the Ellice Recycling Depot will open in May 2015. For additional information or updates, please call 250 880 0533. Thank you for your interest and we look forward to providing these important community services to residents of View Royal and beyond.
