BUILDING AND BYLAW ENFORCEMENT REPORT

RECOMMENDATION:

THAT the Committee receives this report for information;

CHIEF ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER'S COMMENTS:

I concur with the recommendation.

PURPOSE OF REPORT:

To update the Committee on the operations of the Building and Bylaw Department.

BUILDING:

Building for the month of December was focused around ongoing projects and relationships such as Omicron and the coordination of future Tenant Improvement permits for Eagle Creek, the completion of the Public Safety Building, site monitoring for 1900 Watkiss, and the continued monitoring and management of all active files.

New Building Code requirements for Energy Provisions have come into effect as of December 21, 2014 and the Building Department is working with developers, builders and homeowners to ensure the information is properly presented. Required seminars from the Building Officials Association of British Columbia with regards to this change and future considerations have been planned for in the beginning of the New Year.

BYLAW:

December saw a decline in the amount of property complaints and a rise in parking complaints.

262 Island Hwy underwent environmental remediation on premise and it has been completed as per requirements of Safe Premise Bylaw # 652. Tenant has re-applied for a business license to operate, and is being withheld until requested business assurances have been met.

The focus for the New Year will be continued work with the Building Inspector on the Safe Premise and Nuisance Bylaw and completion of active files.
