Update on successful grants distributed by the Community Policing Advisory Committee between 2013 and 2014.

RE: West Shore Community Policing Advisory Committee Grant Update
Dear Inspector Chomyn;
It has been a while since an update was provided to the participating West Shore Municipalities on the successes that the Community Policing Advisory Committee have been having with the Community Policing Grant program.
The goal of the grant program is to assist organizations and schools in the West Shore to develop projects or initiatives focused on the prevention of drug and alcohol use, reducing crime and promoting public safety. Programs must be community based and not for profit.
The funding for this initiative comes from a 10% reallocation of the fee revenue generated during the criminal record check from the municipalities of Langford, Colwood and View Royal.
Since the inception of the grant program in 2012, $12 500 has been given back to our communities involving 28 different projects.
Below is a summary of successful grants covering the period of February 2013 to November 2014.
| Dunsmuir School Library | Purchase 20-25 books on healthy lifestyles and safety. |
| Westshore 1000 x 5 | Purchase children's books for low income/at risk children. Distributed through Food Bank, SD62, Pacific Center for families. |
| Learning Through Loss | Fund 3 x West Shore youth Good Grief Workshops (90 youths) |
| Ecole Shoreline Community School | Bring in Mike Sheehan to speak too school - Motivational speaker for Aboriginal/at-risk youths |
| Savory Elementary School | To bring in either Keisja Cox or Major Conrad Flapps to give an anti-bullying presentation at the school |
| Ecole Millstream School | To bring in the 'Story Theatre Company' to give a presentation called 'Hey...Bully, Bully'. |
| Juan de Fuca Scouts Troop | Help to educate and pay to make emergency supply kits for the community. |
| Home Ec Dept. Belmont Secondary | Funds to reclaim an area with a veggie garden that is currently associated with drug and alcohol activity. |
| Friends of Learning Through Loss(LTL) | To support 2x Good Grief Workshops to youth in the West Shore |
| Westshore Centre for Learning and Training | Funds to support activities, transportation costs and snacks for the Female Faction (After School Girls Group). |
| Westshore Centre for Learning and Training | Funds to support activities, transportation costs and snacks for the Male Faction (After School Guys Group). |
| Westshore Centre for Learning and Training | The Leadership Group will use the funds for three school wide outings that they will plan. |
| Westshore Centre for Learning and Training | Help to pay for supplies for a lunch hour craft club to help students with social anxiety by providing opportunity for healthy social connections. |
| MiTeama Youth & Family Society | Funding for Beecher Bay Fist Nation Students for regalia for drums/dancers/singing group. Public appearances in SD62. |
| Shoreline Community School Association - Nights Alive | To purchase snacks for the Nights Alive program. |
| Communica Dialogue and Resolution Services Society | To provide tuition for Communicating Through Conflict and Money Talks workshop to high needs and marginalized populations. |
| West-Mont Middle School | Purchases to help with their Learning Services Division (outreach to seniors and disable individuals) including gloves, eye protection, gardening shears, etc... |
| 848 Royal Roads Air Cadet Squadron Sponsoring Committee | Facilitate move to a new location. |
