Background:

  • 2006 Helmcken Road project – lamp standards with banner “arms”
  • 2006 Roaming Art Gallery
  • 2007 tunnel painted by community in the Chilco neighbourhood

Through the years donated art:

  • 1988 from City of Colwood upon incorporation
  • 1999 photo of wildflowers from VR Natural Habitat Action Group
  • 2002 traditional landscape from Hanoi, Vietnam delegation
  • 2016 quilt block duplicate commemorating CRD’s 50th anniversary
  • 2 Cole Island paintings (artists D. Malcolm and S. Linggard)
  • 2011-2012 Island Highway Improvement Project – Kunert/Zettle (Ancient Art of Stone) retaining wall (“Love Story”)
  • 2018 co-hosted Art Fest and purchased People’s Choice Award
  • 2020/2021 work underway on totem by T. Lafortune for Public Safety Building

  2. Donation must be unencumbered and be transferable by donor
  3. Independent appraisal required by donor to receive receipt
  4. Council has final decision – donation may be declined

  • Advocate for art on Public land
  • Establish and approve contributions to Public Art Acquisition Reserve Fund through annual financial plan
  • Authorize expenditures from this Fund
  • Provide final approval – pieces and locations

  • Review TOR for acquisitions as required
  • Provide recommendations to Council on Procured and Borrowed Public Art acquisitions
  • Provide advice/recommendation on Donated Public Art if referred
