Roles & Responsibilities:

- Development Services, with input & assistance from all other Departments, to implement this Policy
- Establish and maintain inventory of Owned Public Art
- Establish TOR for acquisitions as required
- Facilitate/support CDAC as required on Public Art matters
- Provide recommendations to Council on Procured and Borrowed Public Art acquisitions
- Coordinate acquisitions in accordance with Policy
- Communicate/outreach to community
- Work with CDAC on recipient site identification
- Coordinate maintenance as required
- Investigate funding opportunities

Funding:
- Establish Public Art Acquisition Reserve Fund:
- Annual budget contribution – equivalent to at least 1% of current yr. contribution to Capital Works & Land Reserve Fund
- Significant Town-led Projects – equivalent of minimum of 1% to total budget for capital projects > $500k
- Donations
- Use to leverage other funding
- Maintenance through annual operating budget, in accordance with maintenance plan provided

Written agreement with the Artist to include, but not limited to:
- scope of work
- materials
- schedule
- installation
- maintenance and repair schedule/requirements

- copyright to the Town, if applicable
- payments to sub-contractors

Installation:
- Process identified in advance
- May involve Artist and/or professional installer
- Will involve coordination with the Town

- At Town’s discretion
- Borrowed items to be insured by Artist and/or have a waiver

Maintenance:
- Artists and Donors to provide maintenance plan
- Part of acquisition evaluation
- If acquired, becomes part of annual operating budget assigned to specific department determined responsible at time of installation

Storage:
- When required, Town to ensure such storage is appropriate
- When possible, existing Town and community resources will be used

Private Art:
- Town Staff may work with others to identify opportunities where art can be incorporated into private spaces
- Private sector developers should consider integrating art into their sites

De-Accessioning:
- Town may do when necessary
- Reasons may include, but are not limited to:
- public safety
- excessive repair/maintenance and repair/remedy not feasible
- ongoing good condition cannot be reasonably guaranteed
- irreparable damage
- quality/authenticity in doubt and subsequently justified
- site no longer accessible/site to be redeveloped
- politically inappropriate
- expiration of lifespan
- If theft, vandalism, or accidental loss, Town may choose to not replace
