Sections showing details for rock wall mesh stabilization and soil retaining walls on the west perimeter.

Drawing No: 7877-7-1Date: March, 2020Issued for Discussion: 2020-03-26Anchor rock embedment: minimum 2.0 m

ROCK WALL/SOIL STABILIZATION

Proposed Residential Development - 1938 West Park Lane, View Royal, B.C.

Project Information

  • Client: Seymour Pacific Developments Ltd.
  • Engineering Firm: RYZUK GEOTECHNICAL Engineering & Materials Testing
  • Drawing No: 7877-7-1
  • Date: March, 2020
  • Status: ISSUED FOR DISCUSSION: 2020-03-26
  • Drawn By: CPAS
  • Scale: NTS

SECTION - Rock Wall Mesh West Perimeter

Engineering diagram illustrating rock mesh stabilization on a fractured bedrock slope.

  • Property Line (P/L)
  • Anchorage System:
    • Auxiliary cable and Auxiliary anchor (see detail F).
    • Galvanized main anchor with eye nut for connection of mesh and top suspension cable. Minimum rock embedment of 2.0 m and 1.0 m stickup. Angle: 10° max.
    • Galvanized anchor plate and nut.
    • Local rock support anchors (galvanized) to stabilize unstable blocks, 3 m embedment.
  • Slope Characteristics:
    • Fractured in-place bedrock.
    • Existing, unstable rock slope (approximate).
    • Approximate height: 12 m.
  • Containment and Catchment:
    • Rock mesh covering the slope face.
    • Catchment area height: 1.2 m.
    • Catchment to be inspected seasonally and cleaned when more than 20% full by height.
    • Lock-block concrete or alternate wall to provide adequate catchment width behind. Wall height: 1.2 m.
    • Fence by others.
    • Finished parking grade.

SECTION - Soil Retaining Wall West Perimeter

Engineering diagram illustrating a lock-block retaining wall with geogrid soil reinforcement.

  • Property Line (P/L)
  • Excavation and Backfill:
    • Backfill comprising blast rock to be sloped at 1.5H: 1V. If soils, 2H: 1V.
    • Temporary excavation cutslope.
    • Backfill to consist of approved granular material compacted to 95% Standard Proctor Maximum Dry Density (SPMDD).
  • Reinforcement:
    • Geogrid length = 0.75H (where H is the wall height).
    • MiraGrid 10XT or equivalent geogrid layers.
  • Construction Details:
    • Concrete wedge to connect the bottom up to 3 block courses. Dowels should have a depth into the blocks and bedrock a minimum 0.2 m with 15 M bar with hook.
    • Concrete pour to be staged such that height of concrete does not exceed 2 blocks at a time.
    • Base preparation: Place block on existing well-compacted blast rock fill, native hard glacial till, or concrete leveling pad upon such. If fill, the subgrade is to be recompacted after bulk excavation is completed.

DETAIL - Block and Rock Anchors

Lock-Block Rebar Anchor Detail

  • 15M rebar anchors to be installed in back side of lock-block.
  • Two per lock-block spaced evenly at half lock-block height.
  • Non-shrink microsil grout or approved equivalent.
  • Hole/anchor to be inclined or measures to be taken to avoid grout loss.
  • Indicated dimensions: 0.1 m, 0.2 m, 0.3 m.

Rock Anchor Detail

  • 15M rebar rock anchors. Size and spacing to be determined based on observed rock quality.
  • Depth to be determined based on rock quality.
  • Non-shrink microsil grout or approved equivalent.
  • Hole/anchor to be inclined or measures to be taken to avoid grout loss.
  • Indicated dimensions: 0.1 m, 0.3 m.

Notes:

  1. Mesh and rock anchor locations to be confirmed with Ryzuk Geotechnical on site following hydro-scaling.
  2. Actual lock-block retaining wall height will be determined at the time of construction based on the encountered conditions.
