Subject: Bessborough Ave parking issues
Dear Mr. Mayor and council
On March 17th 2020, we had the opportunity to meet and discuss the parking issues on Bessborough Ave. I presented a several letters from other residences on our street along with a pile of photos you may recall.
During the March 17th council meeting you referred the issue to staff to write a report and provided recommendations/solutions with the possibility of installing residential only parking signs.
Due to covid I let the matter sit for some time in the hopes I would soon see residential signs be installed. To date nothing has happened!
The parking issue is being pushed around the offices at the town of view royal like a hot potato! No one wants to deal with it apparently.
I followed up in June, July and August with engineering with no response. Today I spoke with engineering out on the street and he informed me that it is a bylaw issue and not engineering.
I then sent an email to bylaws and they said they are not aware of any report they are supposed to write.
Covid restrictions appear to be lessening as the parking issues on Bessborough are escalating again. I have reported 2 parking issues in the past couple weeks to bylaws.
In my opinion bylaw reporting and waiting for him to arrive and see the issue before the person gets back in the car and leaves isn’t working.
Signage (residential only signs !! and letters from the town to each business in the medical building are required to stop to parking issues.
This is a Telus truck from just a week or two ago. Parked for 20-25 minutes to run up to the medical building. Bylaws created a enforcement file # 2020-419.
Lastly, as you know there is a new delelopemnt proposal for the corner of Helmchen and the Island Highway. I sent a request to the architect to understand the use and propasal. There is only 19 commercial parking stalls allotted in the report. This is way less than what would be needed for businesses of this size and scope (red barn market is suggested)
19 stall for customers and staff use is completely inadequate. Just look at the issues with the medical building and they have way more parking than that and we have issues now. Add both of these businesses with parking issues and we are going to have a huge issue on our hands in the near future!
I hope you can help me resolve this issue and get the signs installed at the very least. It may not be the answer but it can’t hurt !!!
Thank you
Jon O’Farrell
