Re file 3060-020-2109-06:331 new house.permit

I own the house at 327 Stewart Ave. and Gary Jackson is my next door neighbour.

I first heard about a new house proposal when, approximately eight - ten months ago, Gary casually mentioned he was going to build on his undeveloped property. At this time he asked me for a letter of support because he needed a variance to build closer to the water than bylaws allowed. He told me that he just required neighbours' support and the View Royal Council would 'put it through'. I explained to Gary that I could not support any variance to setback from the water as I had spent decades of my life working with municipalities to put bylaws in place in order to protect our shorelines in perpetuity . We have had no further conversations about this new house and I wondered if maybe he had put things on hold.

When I arrived home last night I was surprised when neighbours came by to see if I was planning to attend the Tuesday night Council meeting. It was at this time that I had my first look at the house plans for 331 Stewart. I now have too many questions and comments to put in a letter and I have such a brief timeline that I will wait and speak to these issues at the meeting with Council on Tuesday.

I do think a new home on the property could be a positive addition to our neighborhood. However, I oppose the plans that were presented to the Committee of the Whole on May 6, 2019. And yes, I recognize the property has challenges, but different options are available. At this point I feel quite taken aback that things are at this stage without neighbours on this quiet dead end Ave. ever having a single conversations together about a building that has the potential to impact negatively on both the sensitive ocean environment that we have the good fortune to live in as well as on our own personal lives.

Sincerely,
Caren May Cameron
