My neighbour recently gave me this paper outlining the new proposed handy dart facility. I have lived in north view royal for 30 years now. I have seen the farm lands disappear, this site here made into parkland. Now they want to take the parkland and develop it. The site would run right along a salmon creek, and the possibility of spills and run off from the vehicles would be devastating to the creek’s salmon survival. I have watched my area go from a small street with about 22 houses to a farmland being developed into many houses, schools, detention center (turned into homeless shelter and now going to be a rehab center) and golf course, not to mention the eagle view development and the development along Watkins way. Since moving here my rural little area on the outskirts of town has become a busy area, with highway noise being the worst, a two lane into a 5 and six lanes, ambulances going by at all hours of the night. With a handy dart facility outside my bedroom window with it’s 90-115 buses with their back up beeping and the added 112 employees coming and going through our roads and past an elementary school is far more than the north side of view royal can handle at this point. The traffic grid lock now at the corner of Watkiss and Burnside is almost as bad as the Colwood crawl, as people use this road now for a through fair to get to work and schools. Adding another 112 car for employees and the 115 busses coming and going would be a nightmare. At times now it is faster to walk to work that it is to drive in the traffic. The value of our houses for resale will not be as desirable as when I bought here because of the traffic noise, I cannot now sleep with my window open for fresh air or the shades up because of the street lights and the noise of the traffic. I am not opposed to change as I have seen a lot here in my subdivision in the last 30 years. It is becoming a less desirable place to live.
