My name is Dan Anderson, I'm at 2021 Highland Rd, Bill Emile's neighbour. BIll is active with the volunteer Fisheries group on Craigflower Creek, he has spent many, many of his own hours volunteering at Craigflower Creek, at the weir counting spawning salmon, cruising the creek and the lake source of the creek, to ensure the survival of the coho salmon, which are endangered, in very small numbers on the creek.
This Transit proposal is wrong on so many levels, I don't know where to start:
This is not an industrial/commercial area. The other two transit compounds are on Garbally Rd and Henry Eng Place, right in the middle of strictly industrial warehouse neighbourhoods. The Burnside location is immediately adjacent to several multi-family residential areas, the Riverside Ridge subdivision, and EagleRidge school. This is definitely not reflective of the community plan.
Runoff from the huge asphalt parking lot, and from the toxic effluent, coolant, diesel and oil from the vehicles will have a poisonous effect upon the sensitive areas of Craigflower Creek. No amount of preparations, sumps, tanks or otherwise, can prevent completely, toxic runoff from the proposed transit lot. This will kill salmon, fry and the food and waterborne insects the fry depend on for survival.
View Royal claims to be a green organization, but wiping out designated park space for CO2 spewing, diesel belching heavy vehicles is a terribly regressive step in the wrong direction. This is not a green, environmentally sensitive project, it is just the opposite.
This proposal needs to be rejected outright, it is against the community plan, and should be relocated to a more appropriate location, an industrial park, warehousing location, or to an existing Transit facility. For View Royal, this means somewhere in the Admirals Walk area, the adjacent FN lands, where there is already commercial yards, or out of this municipality altogether. Wiping out designated park green space for industrial use is beyond reason and inexcusable.
This is NOT an industrial area, it is RESIDENTIAL!
