Handy DART Facility Proposal

Subject: Handy DART Facility Proposal

View Royal Council;

I do not think that the Handy DART Facility proposed for 2401 Burnside Rd, West is in the best interest of View Royal and in particular the neighbourhoods around Watkiss and Burnside West. Over the last decade far too much of the green space that made this neighbourhood a pleasant and quiet place to live has been eroded away. This piece of property is really the last significant piece of green space we have left and therefore should remain zoned as Park, Open Space and Recreation.

The Handy DART facility will add a significant amount of air, light and noise pollution to the neighbourhood from the 90 plus buses (including back up warning beeps) coming and going from 4:30 am to 11pm, from the 100 plus employees also coming and going during those same hours, and from the facility’s maintenance building (service and washing bays). Traffic is already a problem thanks to so many Langford commuters using our streets to bypass the highway during morning and afternoon rush hour.

I am also concerned about the impact on the local wildlife. For example, what steps will be taken to protect the salmon bearing Craigflower Creek?

I therefore ask that View Royal Council vote No on the proposal to build a Handy DART facility at 2401 Burnside Rd West.

Sincerely,
Elizabeth Roberts
