Re: Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Approach

BACKGROUND:
According to Plug In BC, the program of the Fraser Basin Council that lays ground work for plug-in electric vehicles and related charging infrastructure in British Columbia, there are approximately 1,000 public charging stations throughout B.C. including over 40 fast chargers (Level 3) to make long-distance travel easier. Throughout the region Level 2 charging is the most popular electric charging station, and there are only two Level 3 rapid chargers in the region. Typically all EV chargers are located in places of destination such as shopping centers, recreation facilities, multifamily developments, etc.
To select an EV charging station the length of stay is critical to charging an electric vehicle. The Town does not have public locations where patrons would likely stay for a sufficient period of time to allow their vehicle to charge. Staff have identified the following location and appropriate EV charging stations:
- Centennial Park – Level 3 Charging Station (Rapid)
- Site is ideal location because of proximity to the Trans-Canada Highway;
- Quick and convenient charging on road; this will overcome range anxiety for EV owners;
