Correspondence from Wayne Satchell Re: Transient parking on Gull Rd.
A resident letter expressing concerns about emergency vehicle access and bank erosion due to transient parking on Gull Road.

Hello Mayor and Council,
In the past month, 4-5 cars and trucks have been parking at the Helmcken end of Gull Rd on a daily basis then appearing to use alternate forms of transportation to arrive at their destination. (Bikes and/or public transit). I applaud the fact of using alternative modes of transport to arrive at their ultimate destination, however, I have two concerns with the choice of parking location.
In April of 2017 my neighbours home had a fire. Fortunately, the local firefighters were able to access the home and minimize any substantive damage to the neighboring homes. Thank you. With these vehicles parked where they are, it may be difficult for emergency vehicles to access the homes in the cul-de-sac. Therefore causing a safety concern.
Secondly, Gull Rd. Runs along Craigflower Creek, which over the years has eroded the bank on which Gull Rd. sits. Evidenced by the trees leaning over the creek and the reduced “curb” on the creek side. With the addition of 4-5 vehicles parked on the creek side of Gull Rd. And the added weight of these vehicles, the structural integrity of the bank is at further risk of an excelerated erosion and ultimately the demise of Gull Rd. An expensive repair for View Royal.
Currently, there are no “no parking” signs on this minor stretch of our short street, nor are there any dissuasions (large rocks, or railings) to stop parking there, so I can only assume parking is currently permitted in this area.
My request is simple. Please come by the area in question any weekday to see the vehicles parked on the edge of our street and creek and assess if there should be something done to dissuade parking there.
No parking, residential parking only or some large rocks to stop parking would greatly help to reduce the erosion of the bank and retain easy access for emergency vehicles.
Thank you in advance for your reply.
