Correspondence from Allan Griffin Re: Parking on Gull Rd.

To Mayor and Council,

I live at 297 Gull Rd and have done so for more than six years. Within the past two months we have started to have non-residents begin to park their trucks and cars on our small street and then commute to their place of work for the day. They begin to arrive just after 4 am with the last usually arriving just before seven in the morning. They remove their bicycles and then leave their vehicles parked on the creek side of the street for the day before returning just after 4 pm and packing up to head home.

I have asked them not to park directly in front of my driveway as it was restricting my ability to back into my property. This would work with a few of the commuters until a new commuter shows up and assumes the closest available spot to Helmcken Rd and blocks the opposite side to my house. There have been as many as seven commuters parked on our street but I’m certain that number will grow as it began with just three.

This is a concern for me as well as several of my other neighbours as we have experienced a house fire this past year on our street where seven fire trucks jammed the cul de sac while they worked to save the house. We also have a daily pick up and drop off with the handyDART each weekday at the far end of the street as well as the weekly refuse and recycle trucks that need access.

I am requesting your help with this matter. Would it be possible to make the parking on our street be for residents only? Some signage along those lines would be much appreciated.
