Street Names To Be Changed At Langford
End to Confusion Aim of Officials
The old Island Highway will lose its identity from Craigflower Bridge to its junction with the new Trans-Canada Highway at Goldstream.
A change of name for the Island Highway is one of almost 50 name changes for streets, roads, terraces, drives and crescents in the Langford area.
From Craigflower Bridge to Colwood Junction, the Island Highway will become Sooke Road. From Colwood Junction to the new Trans-Canada Highway, it will become Goldstream Avenue.
All east and west traffic arteries will become avenues and those running north and south will be called roads.
Highways department officials and Langford Fire Protection District officials are cooperating in the major re-naming project.
Fire Chief Rod Bayles said the major reason for the name changing is "duplication, which leads to confusion."
As the Langford area has grown, three different roads, with different names, have been linked, and now there is one road with three different names.
