Dear Mayor and Council,

We are writing to express our strong support for ReImagine West Shore and hope that View Royal Council will seriously consider their request by way of promoting, funding or in-kind support.

As the VRCC is a small team, we do not have the capacity to organize large community events or do the outreach that ReImagine can. What ReImagine West Shore is offering View Royal is a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with them in hosting a community event and getting residents engaged in climate action in a fun and positive way. We understand the theme will be around electrifying everything, just what View Royal is trying to achieve.

Promoting and participating in events would strengthen our community as residents are educated on how to make a significant difference through behavioral changes. In the past, in recognition of the importance of building community, council offered VRCC $3000 to stage a one planet climate focused event, however the pandemic in 2020 forced us to cancel plans. As a point of note, we did not have to apply for a grant in aid to secure funding.

ReImagine is an extremely well run organization led by veteran leaders with years of experience under their belts. Jane can attest to their great organizational skills as she was recently invited to host a table at their West Shore Community Meetup with our South Island Climate Action Network, which the VRCC is a member of.

The event was very well attended by many of our Westshore councillors, including, we are proud to report, our own Councillors McKenzie and Rogers.

It was such a resounding success that Reimagine Westshore will be hosting a similar event at the West Shore Town Centre on April 27th.

Hopefully some of you can attend this next exciting event and check Reimagine out for yourselves.

Respectfully yours,
VRCC Core Team
Jane Devonshire, Linda Jeaurond, Roz Isaac and Ian Brown
