The Director of Protective Services gave a summary of the report to the Committee.
The Committee and Director discussed overnight staffing at the Public Safety Building, Firefighter recruitment process, and the Emergency Preparedness Fair.

b) West Shore RCMP 2016 Annual Year End Report
- Report from Insp. Chomyn, Officer in Charge, West Shore RCMP
Insp. Chomyn gave an overview of the Annual Year End report to the Committee.
The Committee and Inspector discussed car thefts, traffic violations, organized crime, and calls for service statistics.

a) Portage Linear Connector Park
The Committee discussed varying perspectives about trees held by the users of Portage Inlet Linear Connector Park and the need to develop the Town’s own vision for the Park.
The Committee requested that Engineering Department staff meet with representatives from Councillor Rast’s walking group and the Portage Inlet Sanctuary Colquitz Estuary Society (PISCES) to discuss their perspectives and that the matter be referred to the Parks, Recreation and Environment Advisory Committee.
