- Nature and goals of the project, program or event:
As we are in a Climate Emergency, the exhibitors at this event will help educate the public on how to reduce their GHG emissions and make life more affordable at the same time. The hope is to get them to replace their oil and gas furnaces with life-saving heat pumps that will keep them warm in the winter and most importantly, cool in the summer. This will make them climate resilient against the increasing number of heat waves we will be experiencing. It will also cut down on the Town's pollution making our air cleaner, healthier and safer. As wildfires are a growing concern with our prolonged droughts and heat waves, by partnering with the Firesmart Program we can encourage our residents to be proactive in their landscaping choices. The Emergency Support Services will be on hand with life saving advice.

With the Town sponsoring this community event, it will show that View Royal is demonstrating leadership on climate action. It will help our residents better prepare and adapt to the impacts of climate change. It will help save many more lives from heat and pollution. We have so few community events in View Royal and this will help build community, something that will be very much needed in the future if we are to pull together to survive what climate impacts are headed our way.
