Subject: What should be done with the northwesterley corner of Admirals and IH
Thankyou for inviting nearby residents of Saanich to comment.
We suffer from traffic backups that would be less if View Royal had properly expanded Island Highway and the turn onto it.
Proper zoning of that property would allow for road width expansion that should have been done when the Craigflower bridge was replaced.
View Royal cheaped its part of replacement of the Craigflower bridge, not expanding the turn from Admirals Road southbound to Island Highway westbound.
(Note that much of the periphery was rebuilt at the time thus cost for widening not as high as you might think. I presume purchase of a strip of land would be needed, as Saanich did on its side of the bridge.)
PS: FTR, View Royal also cheaped widening of IH when the Canadian Tire store was built, an extra lane should have been built west to the railway underpass. (Which unfortunately was not made wide enough for three lanes when it was rebuilt.)
PPS: Fortunately the new bridge has two lanes southbound in View Royal, but Saanich cheaped its end and the approach to it.
