We received information in the mail about the proposed amendment of Covenant CA8718173 to allow for change from a traffic circle to a signaled intersection at the corner of Erskine Lane, Stoneridge Drive and Watkiss Way.
Our group owns and manages the 44 unit apartment building at 1950 Watkiss and our office is in the same building so I know the area well.
We feel a traffic circle would be a better solution for traffic calming at the Erskine Lake intersection on Watkiss Way as we watch from our office people speed through the Eagle Creek school zone all the time. We are surprised the RCMP are not there more often. A lighted intersection (when light is green) doesn't force vehicles to slow down while a traffic circle forces vehicles to slow down more to enter the traffic circle while also allowing continuous movement of vehicles.
So for better pedestrian safety near the school zone on Watkiss, the hospital area and future residents of Erskine Lane, a traffic circle seems like it would be beneficial to better traffic calming than a light on Watkiss by forcing vehicles to slow down. And not just when it is a red light. There is already a traffic circle further east where the hospital, Eagle Creek Plaza road meet Watkiss Way which seems to be working well with many pedestrians while forcing vehicles to slow down.
