Subject: Traffic signals at Watkiss and Stoneridge Dr/Erskine Ln
Mayor Tobias and Councillors,
It is our understanding that the planned signal-controlled intersection (instead of a roundabout) at Watkiss and Stoneridge Dr/Erskine Ln will be a "basic" R/Y/G traffic light without advance left turn signals for vehicles exiting Stoneridge and Erskine. While we are 100% in favour of traffic signals at this intersection, we feel the omission of advance lefts is somewhat short sighted. While it will be difficult to make a left onto Watkiss from the Stoneridge development, it will potentially be even more difficult for vehicles trying to exit Erskine Ln given the number of people that will be living on that side once all the various developments are complete. Conservatively, with the number of suites planned for the current West Urban development, there could be 200+ cars trying to exit Erskine Ln each morning, with more if development further down Erskine goes ahead.
At the upcoming Oct 17 council meeting, we would ask that Council and the Dept of Engineering seriously consider installing advance left signals, even if they’re not activated until the volume of traffic requires it. This would also hopefully save time, money and work re-installing lights at a later time.
Thank you for your time.
Respectfully yours,
Andrew & Shelley Engelhardt
