I am writing to ask that the Town use all the leverage it can muster to persuade the applicant to adhere to the Zero Carbon Step Code. This seems to me the least the applicant could do for such a lucrative zoning change. In the this era of declared Climate Emergency we need to be doing all we can to prevent increase in the use of fossil fuels in the Town with the long term view to reducing greenhouse gas production wherever possible in View Royal. There is absolutely no need for a gas connection to this building given the fine modern technology for it to be heated by electric heat pump and water heated by the same technique. Claims that might be made for backup heating merely reflect an ignorance of heat pump technology. We all know that BCHydro has plenty of capacity to serve this mode of heating.
