Dear Two Rivers,

Shoreline Middle School is presenting a community event on June 21st. We are hosting, Solstice on the Shore, to bring our community together for a fun event, fostering connections and focusing on health and wellness. It is also National Aboriginal Day and as our school has many students from the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations we will be featuring dance, art, food and information from our Aboriginal community neighbours.

Shoreline school has been chosen for a pilot program funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada. My job as a community builder for the Health Promoting Schools project is to determine areas of strength and opportunities for growth. At Shoreline we feel that we could develop stronger ties to the community and connect our diverse population under the umbrella of health and wellness.

We are bringing together local entertainers, farmers, non-profit organizations, green initiatives, mental health supports, artisans and great food for a free, fun, family event. We are excited to announce that we have booked Daniel Lapp and the BC Fiddle Orchestra featuring Victoria youths.

At present time we have several fundraising activities planned such as hosting a district wide luncheon, garage sale, produce sale etc. We are trying to get discounts/donations for some things we need to pay for, such as sound system, stage, sound tech, entertainment, food for volunteers, children's activity area, first aid etc. This is a big project with a short timeline but we felt there was an urgency to get going on it, and kick off a great start, to promoting healthy schools and communities.

We are hoping to raise $3000 to cover our expenses and any part, small or large, that you could cover would be greatly appreciated. If you have banners or advertising we would proudly display it front and center.

Also, we would love to involve you in the festival in any capacity. If you have any ideas on how you could come together and join the fun, we would love to hear about it.

Please consider helping us accomplish our goal of hosting this a great family/community event and we hope to see you there!

Maureen Greive, Community Builder, Shoreline Middle School
