ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: FOR EACH CATEGORY, PLEASE CHECK APPLICABLE ITEMS

A. SUBJECT PROPERTY MUST BE ONE OF:

  • Land or improvements, or both, ancillary to a statutory exemption under s. 220 of the Community Charter

B. NATURE OF ORGANIZATION MUST BE:

  • Non-profit organization
  • Organization eligible to s. 220 statutory exemption (e.g. place of public worship, cemetery, library, Indian land, Seniors home, hospital, etc.) Community hall

C. COMMUNITY BENEFITS:

  • Provide recreational facilities for public use
  • Provide recreation programs to the public
  • Provide programs to and/or facilities used by youth, seniors or other special needs groups
  • Preserve heritage important to the community character

Narrative description of organization activities

The Strawberry Vale and District Community Club operates the Strawberry Vale Community Hall, providing a valuable community resource for activities for indoor sports such as badminton, service club meetings, weekly bingo, and as a rental space for weddings, parties, and other gatherings. The hall is used as the location for the Town of View Royal’s Volunteer Recognition Dinner.

The Club operates a weekly Bingo, open to the general public, which conforms with regulations pursuant to the BC Gaming Commission. The fee for participating in badminton is $1 per session for members, $2 for non-members. The hall can be rented by the public for $450 per evening. A weekly sewing club is free to members. A conservative estimate of volunteer hours associated with operating the Strawberry Vale Community Hall is 40 hours per month.
