1 CALL TO ORDER
February 18, 2022199 Atkins RoadSafety concerns regarding lack of sidewalks

From: Donald Brown Sent: February 18, 2022 1:57 PM To: Info Address info@viewroyal.ca Subject: Application for Development variance permit 2679 Myra Place

Hello,

Please add these comments and photos to the agenda of March 1, 2022. I will be attending in person to comment if necessary.

I personally have no issues with the proposal but do have a concern because the driveway to 2679 will have to cross through the middle of the property at 2675 Myra Place. This driveway is the only access point for the house at 2679 Myra and also crosses the Galloping Goose Trail. This access is needed for Fire, Police and Ambulance services to access 2679 Myra place. In addition this access is also used by CRD Parks to access the Galloping Goose for maintenance.

The driveway to 2679 is also a safe access to the Galloping Goose for residents on foot from the 100 and 200 blocks of Atkins Road. Currently there are no sidewalks on this section of Atkins Road and the road is very narrow, deep ditches on some sections, and poorly lit which is great cause for safety concerns (please see attached photos).

My hope is that if Council allows this variance that the new owner will not attempt to stop the small amount of foot traffic that uses the driveway at 2679 to access the Galloping Goose Trail. If the proposed sidewalk project on this section of Atkins Road is approved and completed then there would be less need for this access. The number of pedestrians currently using this access to the Galloping Goose Trail is less than 20 persons who use it at different times and on different days. Currently hundreds of pedestrians, bikes and strollers pass in front of the residence at 2679 Myra Place and behind the residence at 2675 Myra Place on a daily basis.

Sincerely,

Don Brown 199 Atkins Road
