Re: 1947 Highland Road, Tree Permit #2021-086

Your application to remove one 60 cm dbh Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) tree has been denied at this time. Should you wish to prune the lower limbs of this tree to provide roof and deck clearance this letter will act as a permit to do so, provided pruning be done in accordance with Canadian Landscape Standards (current edition) by an ISA certified arborist.

Under the Town of View Royal’s Tree Protection Bylaw 695, Section 19 you have the right to appeal this decision by submitting an application for reconsideration in writing to Council. As part of this application, we would suggest you include an ISA certified arborist report stating the reasons for this tree to be removed, and/or proof such as receipts for repair, photos, etc. that clearly indicate the tree is causing damage to your water/sewer/drains. Below are arborists that the Town has used for reports in the past and trust to be accurate. These are consulting arborists only. They provide reports on the status of trees and do not do tree removal.

  • Talbot, Mackenzie & Associates, Consulting Arborists, 250-479-8733
  • Dunster & Associates, Environmental Consultants Ltd., 778-433-8465
  • Gye & Associates, Urban Forestry and Arboriculture, 250-544-1700

You can use one of these or another ISA certified arborist of your choice. Please note that the cost of the reports is your responsibility. Once you have obtained a certified arborist report, please contact our office at 250-479-6800 or email engineering@viewroyal.ca.

This permit for pruning is valid for one year from the date issued and will expire on September 23, 2022.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our office at 250-708-2258.

Sincerely,

John Rosenberg, A.Sc.T Director of Engineering
