FIRE DEPARTMENT DISPATCH CONTRACT

RECOMMENDATION:

THAT the Town of View Royal amend the Fire Dispatch Contract with the City of Surrey;

AND THAT staff be authorized to execute the contract amendment substantially in the form attached to the CAO's report dated May 13, 2022 titled "Fire Department Dispatch Contract".

PURPOSE OF REPORT:

To amend a Fire Dispatch Service Contract with the City of Surrey to allow extensions in future.

BACKGROUND:

When the District of Saanich announced significant increases in Dispatch Costs under the Dispatch Services Contract renewals the Town of View Royal joined other municipalities in a Request for Proposals process resulting in enormous savings by contracting the Dispatch Service with the City of Surrey.

The Town of View Royal entered into a contract with the City of Surrey for dispatch services beginning September/October of 2018. The contract was established for a five (5) year term without provision for extension or renewals.

DISCUSSION:

The attached document is an amendment to the existing contract to introduce language that enables an additional five (5) year extension to the term recognizing that fees do escalate annually.

This contract amendment is not by itself an extension to our arrangement with the City of Surrey rather it enables an extension opportunity before the expiration of the current term.

RECOMMENDATION:

THAT the Town of View Royal amend the Fire Dispatch Contract with the City of Surrey;

AND THAT staff be authorized to execute the contract amendment substantially in the form attached to the CAO's report dated May 13, 2022 titled "Fire Department Dispatch Contract".
