Correspondence from CREST regarding CREST Appointment
A request from CREST for the Town to nominate a representative for a 4-year term on their Board of Directors.
Town of View Royal 45 View Royal Avenue Victoria, BC, V9B 1A6
October 24, 2022
Dear Mayor Tobias,
Congratulations on your recent election. As you prepare to commence your term of office, we know you will be making Council appointments to various committees and organizations. As a shareholder in CREST, you will be nominating a representative to take on the role of a Director on our Board.
Given the technical nature of the work that CREST performs on behalf of the first responder community throughout the region, we feel it is advantageous for your representative to take on the CREST director position for the entire 4-year term of civic office. That gives some continuity to the CREST Board and allows for new directors to gain a better understanding of the CREST enterprise.
While historically local government Directors have been elected officials, that is not a legal requirement. Your municipality is free to nominate any community member to serve as your shareholder representative. The preference, however, would be to nominate a member of your Council whenever possible.
Please note that our first Board meeting of the new term is scheduled for Wednesday, November 16 at 3:30pm and subsequent meeting dates for 2023 will be in February, May, September and November.”
We appreciate your consideration of our request.
Sincerely,
Tim Morrison, Chair CREST
