EVENT DESCRIPTION

Go By Bike Week (GBBW), previously Bike to Work Week, is an annual celebration of cycling! GBBW encourages everyone to give cycling a try for one week. To encourage riders, GBBW organizes rides, challenges, Celebration Stations along busy cycling routes, and hundreds of prizes!

For 28 Years, GBBW has changed lives. It has helped define Greater Victoria as a destination region with a vibrant cycling culture and economy. We have celebrated with over 120,000 participants and introduced over 16,000 people to riding. With an annual participation between 8,000-10,000 people, it is one of the biggest free events in the region!

One of Victoria’s highest-visibility events, GBBW is an unparalleled opportunity to share your brand through direct marketing, digital marketing, t-shirts, our Celebration Stations, as well as individual and team challenges.

Spring

In 2021, Go By Bike Week was a blast! On hiatus since 2019 due to COVID, we created a hugely successful virtual and self-directed event. Participants returned in pre-pandemic numbers and gave immensely positive feedback!

We focused on activities that enriched peoples’ knowledge of their neighbourhood by exploring local businesses and riding with friends and family. We expanded our Neighbourhood Rides, Photo Challenge, and Sticker Challenge programs, and our first Sticker Challenge title sponsor, Monk Office, saw a 25% increase in business participation!

Fall

Fall of 2021 saw the return of in-person Celebration Stations. We were one of few organizations granted permission due to our excellent communicable disease safety plan. Fall featured 14 Celebration Stations with thousands of attendees. We also hosted new activities such as a webinar with an internationally known author, the first Capital Bike Kids Ride at the Tour de Victoria, and the first Reconciliation Day Ride (in partnership with Victoria Orange Shirt Day and Songhees First Nation).

Participants and sponsors raved about the fun, engaging, and meaningful activities. We engaged workplaces, friends, and families in team challenges, supported local businesses, and promoted new services.

Most importantly, we made people smile.

“I bought a bike specifically to use for Go By Bike Week and it really motivated to get out of the house after work. I've now kept up the routine and am really proud of myself!” -Anonymous
