Dear Town of View Royal,

I am very pleased to know that my letter about living with traffic noise in Thetis Vale will be discussed by Council!

I didn't mention the numerous well respected scientific studies (Harvard included) that show that relentless exposure to traffic noise can seriously harm one's health. A quick Google search shows that it can cause cardiovascular disease and other illnesses.

Please include this information during the December 6 discussion and make it available for the public record.

Thank you so much!

Crissa Constantine

Subject: Thetis Vale traffic noise

Dear Mayor Tobias and View Royal Council,

I lived on Lund Road in Thetis Vale from mid 2018 to March 2020. When I bought the house, there was a thick barrier of big evergreen trees beside the TCH and I didn’t see the highway or hear much noise. However, a few months after I moved in, many of these trees were cut down to make way for more residential construction. The Vale area suddenly became noisy to the point that I couldn’t sleep well at night in spite of ear plugs and white noise machines. There was a 24-hour hum that sounded like a hive of killer bees. I don’t know who actually cut down the trees, but whoever did it needs to take responsibility for the health-damaging traffic noise.

I sold my house and moved to Sidney, but I feel very sorry for the folks who are living in Thetis Vale right now. I inquired about the noise at the town hall soon after it started and was told it was a provincial matter. Maybe so, but someone has to take responsibility and fix the situation. It’s an emergency.

Thanks for your attention!

Most sincerely,

Crissa Constantine
