To whom it may concern,

December 06, 2022

This Bylaw change only came to my attention a few days ago. I am surprised by the lack of information and/or consultation in this proposal.

My wife and I live on St. Giles St. between two of the proposed parks for the bylaw change. We are elderly and I am on a disability. The thought of our Street becoming a thoroughfare between two homeless camps has us deeply concerned. I imagine I would need to revisit the security on our property to reflect the inevitable criminal activity. We have always felt safe in this quiet neighborhood, the change in the bylaw would alter the very nature of our area.

We strongly advocate for the status quo of this bylaw. The municipality has neither the resources or support of constituents to warrant this proposed change.

Subject: Re: Homeless Camping

Dear Mayor and council,

My letter is to express concern over the proposed homeless overnight camping in Portage Linear Park. I am a 72 year old female and I use this park regularly to get exercise and walk my dogs. The idea of homeless staying in these parks deeply concerns me. Not only would mine and my small dogs safety be at risk, but I would also fear for the state of the parks beauty and all the wildlife and birds that inhabit our parks. These parks are used daily by countless residents walking their dogs, and it is a big part of our community. Allowing this would completely change a big part of my life as I would be too fearful to continue with these walks and would be forced to drive to other suitable locations. This seems very unfair as a tax payer in the community.

Please keep our parks safe!

Thank you,

Beryl Chilton - 148 St. Giles Street
