Dear Mayor Tobias and Council,
I am writing to ask that you consider remaining a Group 1 investor in the CRD Arts Service.
As founding, and current, Artistic Director of Theatre Inconnu, I have been directly involved in the performing arts scene in the Greater Victoria region for almost 40 years. It is only through the support of the core municipalities that the Greater Victoria region has been able to sustain a rich cultural output. The involvement of these municipalities has contributed to a level of artistic activity that this region can be proud of. And, aside from the level of artistic excellency achieved these activities of artistic collaboration and cultural sharing has done so much to foster the overall societal health of the religion. Any decrease to the level of investment that View Royal currently makes will add to the on-going challenge cultural groups face. Since 1987, our Theatre Inconnu participants have come from every area of the region, and our work has been supported by audience members who also reside in the different municipalities the make up the CRD. Of course, I realize that these are difficult times, and that unfortunately culture is often considered to be one of the first items on the list for cuts. I wish to give a heartfelt plea that you choose to retain your Group 1 investment status, so that all those who contribute so much of their time and talent in their effort to keep the cultural vibrancy alive in the region, can continue to do so.
