Re: Industrial light at CFB Esquimalt
I am writing to suggest an item for your next liaison meeting with staff at CFB Esquimalt.
There is an extremely bright light, presumably in connection with ongoing jetty construction, that is visible to View Royal residents across the harbour. At our property in the Six Mile area the light is the brightest object in the night sky and can cast a shadow despite a distance of more than three kilometres.
In September 2021 I wrote to the Base Commander suggesting that the light be shielded or refocused on the area that needs to be illuminated. We did not receive a reply.
While I recognize the critical importance of the Base and the need for the jetty upgrades, I would appreciate it if you would inquire if the liaison representatives could explore options to reduce the impact of lighting outside the base.
