Letter to Graham Hill Re: 90th Birthday

On the occasion of your 90th Birthday Former Mayor Graham Hill

It gives me great pleasure, and indeed a sense of occasion, to write to you on the celebration of your 90th birthday.

Few can lay claim to a life so well-lived in service to their community, and fewer still can point to a legacy as enduring as yours in the Town of View Royal. During your tenure as Mayor, you did not merely preside—you safeguarded. You protected the very essence of our town, ensuring that progress did not come at the cost of character, nor growth at the cost of grace.

The 2011 Official Community Plan stands today as a testament to your foresight and steady hand, crafted with a clarity of vision that has withstood the test of time. Under your leadership, we saw the transformation of Helmcken Road—a beautification that did more than improve a thoroughfare; it announced, with quiet dignity, the pride we take in our public spaces.

Equally, your service as a Director of the Capital Regional District revealed a steadfast champion of the environment. At every turn, you spoke up for our forests, our waters, and the future of our natural inheritance. It is thanks to advocates such as yourself that our region remains a place where the beauty of the land is not only remembered but revered.

Today, as we walk the paths you helped shape, and enjoy the community you worked so diligently to protect, we are mindful of the debt of gratitude owed to you. Your mark upon View Royal is indelible, and your example of public service remains an inspiration to all who follow.
