DEVELOPMENT VARIANCE PERMIT (DVP) 2025-04 – 1701 ISLAND HWY

RECOMMENDATION:

THAT Council authorize the issuance of Development Variance Permit (DVP) 2025-04 for 1701 Island Hwy in accordance with plans submitted to the Development Services Department on October 22, 2025, subject to the development meeting all the Town’s Sign Bylaw regulations, except for the following variance:

  1. increase the maximum sign area from 4m² to 7.40m².

ALTERNATIVE OPTIONS:

THAT Council decline Development Variance Permit (DVP) 2025-04 for 1701 Island Highway.

PURPOSE:

The purpose of this report is to consider a Development Variance Permit Application (DVP) 2025-04 for 1701 Island Highway for one variance to the Sign Bylaw for a freestanding sign.

DEVELOPMENT APPLICATION PROCESS:

Figure 1 below outlines the DVP application process. The red star indicates where the application falls within the process.

ANALYSIS:

The proposal was introduced at the November 12, 2025, Council meeting. The staff report can be found in Attachment 1.

Notice of this meeting to consider this application was made in accordance with Development Procedures Bylaw No.730, 2009. Staff recommend that Development Variance Permit (DVP) 2025-04 be approved.

Impacts and implications can be summarized as follows:

Financial Implication: There are no financial implications anticipated for the Town.
Inter-governmental Relations Impact: There are no anticipated impacts to inter-governmental relations.
