Applicant’s Letter to Mayor and Council - Houston Sign
Letter from Dan Houston requesting a sign variance for a freestanding pylon sign at 1701 Island Highway.
October 20, 2025
Mayor Tobias and Council,
I am formally requesting approval and support for a sign variance of the free-standing pylon sign located at 1701 Island Highway.
We are proposing to alter an existing free-standing pylon sign by adding an additional sign (5’ x 8’ overall sign) divided into two businesses. This pylon sign previously housed signage for two businesses, Serious Coffee and Big-O Tires. The commercial space located at unit 201 was previously occupied by one tenant (Big-O Tires) and now houses two, Peak Vitality and Excalabor Glass. Both businesses should have representation on the pylon sign.
The addition to the current pylon sign does not negatively affect the neighborhood or community as there was previously a second double sided cabinet on this pylon sign. There will be no adjustments to sidewalks, buildings or access.
I may be contacted at 250-385-9993 if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter,
Dan Houston Owner/Operator Houston Sign 502 William Street Victoria, BC
