RE: Tree Permit 2019-076 29 Tovey Crescent

Thank you for your tree permit application to remove three trees, as well as the accompanying arborist report provided by Gye & Associates dated January 19, 2018. Your application has been assessed as follows:

  1. Double-stemmed Douglas Fir tree located along the south boundary, partially on municipal land – the sub-dominant stem growing toward the house has been approved for removal, as recommended in the arborist report. This removal must be completed as per in accordance with BC Landscape Standards (current edition) by an ISA certified arborist.
  2. Ponderosa Pine tree, dbh 80 cm, located along the boundary between 25 and 29 Tovey Cres – removal has been denied at this time. As indicated in the arborist report, the tree has a healthy stem girth as well as a sound structure.
  3. Douglas fir, dbh 80 cm, located beside the driveway and opposite the pine tree – removal has been denied at this time. It is noted in the arborist report that health of this tree appears to be deteriorating, however as the reason is unclear it should be monitored for future health.

If the health and condition of the Pine and Doug fir trees continue to deteriorate, with a clear indication that the trees are hazardous, you are welcome to resubmit your application for removal.

Under the Town of View Royal’s Tree Protection Bylaw 695, Section 19 you have the right to appeal this decision by submitting an application for reconsideration in writing to Council.

This permit is valid for one year from the date issued and will expire on September 30, 2020. After this date, a new permit application will have to be submitted again for approval.

Please contact the engineering department at 250-479-6800 if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

John Rosenberg, A.Sc.T. Director of Engineering & Parks
