Details of item to be added: ISSUE: Thetis Lake Dam Safety Update presentation to Council this fall. Thetis Lake earthfill dam #3 began construction in 1896 with no substantial upgrade since then. A dam safety was commissioned in 2017 by CRD. Dam 3 has a very high consequence classification with potentially insufficient spillway. Since the report, the lake was "challenged" the November 2021 "atmospheric river". Recent scientific research warns us of the Cascadia Fault line. The Leech River fault line that runs just 5 km south of Thetis Lake Dam 3. CRD has undertaken significant seismic upgrades to other dams, including possibly an early warning system for downstream residents in Sooke.
List any attachments: Motion: Staff provide copy of 2017 report, current risk assessments and next steps to Council this fall. Council also invite representatives from CRD and the Province to detail their ongoing involvement and investment. (various information attached)
