Consideration for Council Meeting - Feb 7th, 2023
Attention Mayor and Council
We recommend taking some more time for additional community consultation for areas of concern in the OCP before it’s put forward for adoption.
We were informed on Feb 3 that the OCP was up for approval consideration on Feb 7. This is not enough time to allow residents to prepare and submit concerns to View Royal. There are parts of the OCP that require review and consideration for change. Unfortunately we are both away on business until Feb 8 and therefore cannot express our concerns in person at the Feb 7 Council meeting.
An area of specific concern is the housing strategy outlining the assertion of growth that may be inaccurate and development plans for density are potentially based on incorrect data.
Growth in View Royal has been quite substantial for a small community (11% from 2016-2021).
The main corridors around the casino area were a focus for density in the walkabouts and some great ideas were discussed yet the OCP seems to target the easier to control residential neighborhoods.
I attended many of the OCP walkabouts. I provided verbal feedback as well as written feedback to View Royal. The documentation that was shared with the public did not reflect any of my feedback, nor did it seem to reflect that of my neighbours. If this was meant to be a consultation the feedback should have been transparent and reflected in the information shared.
We sincerely hope that the Town of View Royal Mayor and Council pause to take some time to consider residents feedback and potential change to the OCP.
