Subject: Reviewing View Royal’s group level participation in the CRD Arts,
To Mayor and council
I have lived in View Royal for almost 25 years. When I first came here from Saanich I found I had to PAY PERSONALLY to continue to borrow books from the Greater Victoria Public Library because View Royal did not support that important public institution. Fortunately, View Royal became a paying participant shortly after that.
I feel reducing View Royal’s contribution to CRD Arts is a similar kind of short sightedness. The arts are an important part of a civilized society. Tickets to events are often expensive. Reducing support is not in the best interest of our town.
I hold season tickets to Pacific Opera Victoria, the Victoria Symphony, Langham Court Theatre and Phoenix Theatre. Our whole South Island community would be poorer without these institutions. And they cannot exist without some public funding.
