Subject: Fwd: letter

Dear Mayor & Council,

I attended the open house for the Active Transportation Plan and was impressed by the thoughtful presentation and work done to date. While I am not in concurrence with all the plan I am highly supportive of the direction it is taking the Town.

In reading the agenda for today I am deeply concerned and dismayed by the 113 comments from a single member of Council. It seems to me that after the public has weighed in that this single member of Council is trying to suggest many sweeping changes and have the plan represent their own views more than that of the broader communities. Surely this plan has been prepared by professional staff and consultants along with community input. Surely one member of Council's opinions should not take precedence?

Why at this late stage of the game would the Town be considering a rambling assortment of thoughts and ideas to change this plan? Surely if some of these changes are enacted the plan should go back for public comment?

Councils role in governance is clear. They are at the executive level making decisions regarding values and policy. I, for one, find it deeply troubling when a member of Council is at the staff level attempting to do staffs work rather than respecting the divisions that must exist in a well governed municipality.

I ask for this letter to be placed on the agenda.

Thank-you and best regards.
