Subject: Variance for 17A Jedburgh Road and traffic
Hello, we live on Jedburgh and received notice for property variance Permit 2015/02. There a quite a few people who live on Jedburgh and have noticed lots of development coming to this area , including the property near Island Highway which is for sale. Quite a few years ago when Helmcken road was upgraded, a mistake was made and the grade on Helmcken and Jedburgh was made higher then the original road was to begin with. Monies were spent on researching how to fix this problem. We then had a meeting in council chambers which included a presentation with the research team. After much discussion we were informed that the best way to solve this problem would be to have a no left turn on to Helmcken. We were assured the sign would only be there for about 6 months for the road to be re-graded. It has now been over 5 years and we still cannot turn left on to Helmcken Road. There are quite a few large lots left on Jedburgh and we know that more development will come. Basically we are concerned about traffic flow on the street and not having the ability to turn left on to Helmcken. There is no other option at this point but for traffic to go down Jedburgh to Island Highway and then Burnett, which will make it very busy on the narrow street. As the new fire hall is very close to Jedburgh and Island Highway there will also be more traffic turning into the fire hall which may make it harder to turn right from Jedburgh on to Island highway.
Thank you for you attention in this matter.
Kyra and Jim Henry
