Hi David,
Our SEAPARC community recreation center in Sooke, is submitting a grant application under the UBCM Strategic Priorities Fund to build an artificial turf field in Sooke. This application is sponsored by the CRD as a Regional project and I was hoping that you would consider endorsing and supporting this project.
I am sure that you are aware that we have upwards of 10,000 registered soccer players and hundreds and possibly thousands of football, rugby , baseball, slow-pitch and fastball ball youth and adults within the CRD boundary. In addition to these players we have soccer academies in our school system and an explosion of rugby programs with the inclusion of rugby into the Olympics.
Sooke does not have an all weather sports field and closes it's field for up to 3 months per season due to rain. The closures have been devastating , not only to our Sooke and Juan de Fuca children but the visiting teams from throughout the CRD including View Royal. Many of our Sooke teams are now renting field time from Langford 's all weather field which will only compound the problem as Langford's needs grow.
Would it please be possible for you to write a very short note of support, in the next couple of weeks on your letterhead addressed to:
Steve Knoke SEAPARC Manager PO Box 421 Sooke, BC V9Z 1H4
and scan and e-mail to myself directorjdf@crd.bc.ca or Lynn MacDonald lmacdonald@crd.bc.ca
The letter could just be a paragraph or two supporting the building of an artificial field in Sooke. If we get this 1.2 million dollar grant, we can build the best field ever for our children.
I really appreciate your help.
Mike
