Parking on Hallowell Road

RECOMMENDATION:

THAT Council approves the removal of parking spaces on Hallowell Road from Admirals Road to the laneway west of Reliable controls on both sides of the Street.

I concur with the recommendation.

PURPOSE OF REPORT:

To address the safety concerns created with vehicles parking on Hallowell Road from Admirals Road to the laneway west of Reliable Controls.

BACKGROUND:

At the Committee of the Whole Meeting on April 14 staff was directed to review the parking on Hallowell Road (see attachment). Residents are concerned with parked cars creating an unsafe situation and are apprehensive when travelling on Hallowell Road. With the additional development at the intersection of Admirals Road and Hallowell Road it is anticipated the situation will be intensified. In addition it is likely parking will be impacted upon the creation of the E&N Rail Trail once constructed along Hallowell Road. As part of the process Reliable Controls were contacted (see attached email), they are opposed to the elimination of the parking stalls and feel it would be detrimental to their business operations. Consideration could be given to short term parking in front of the Reliable Controls business, allowing 2 hour parking only. The safety issues would still be present at times and enforcement may become an issue.

ALTERNATIVES TO STAFF RECOMMENDATION:

That Council allows parking to remain on Hallowell.
