Re: Attic inspection at above address 29th May 2015
We inspected the attic of the abovementioned house at your request.
The fiberglass blown in insulation was noted to be disturbed and a nasty odor was detected as we entered the attic area. The odor was traced to a squirrel that was caught in a rodent trap and had crawled into the insulation and died. The heat in the attic had begun the decay of the body rapidly judging by the maggots and odor.
The main cause of the problem is the trees that grow adjacent to the house and branches that overhang the roof. This encourages squirrels and possibly rodents to climb onto the roof and enter through the roof top air vents.
This is a serious health hazard and every effort should be made to prevent this from occurring again. The trees appear to be Garry Oaks and will require the cooperation and assistance of the local authorities in order to remove or prune the trees.
