Dear Chad,
Your attached letter dated February 6th 2012 contains the following statement:
"It should be noted that the Town of View Royal has already issued the tree removal permit. This permit allows for up to eight (8) trees to be removed."
This is not the case. No permit has been issued. This is a very misleading and unprofessional statement.
Further, you dismiss the historical intent of a restrictive covenant drawn up in the 1970's. The purpose of this covenant was to protect Pike Lake and it's surroundings from the visual impact of the hydro lines. This site was expropriated from my family's farm in a friendly co-operative negotiation and BC Hydro should be congratulated for wanting to protect such a unique and beautiful natural site.
Had both parties been able to predict the invention of cell phones, the document would have extended the restricted area. Your tower will be plainly visible not only from Deborah Todd's house but also from many other places around the lake.
I fail to see any benefit to my municipality with your selection of this site. It is located on the northern extreme boundary and it's signals to the residents of View Royal will be blocked by the trees and hills of Thetis Lake Park. It would however, provide excellent service to the municipality of the Highlands. Perhaps those citizens would enjoy having your tower in one of their front yards.
You state that under the requirements of Industry Canada's CPC Issue 4, I have fourteen days to respond. Or what? Apparently you don't remember "the future is friendly". Take your tower and .... move it somewhere else.
