Determination and Certification by Corporate Officer of Result Regarding the Alternative Approval Process for View Royal Public Safety Building Loan Authorization Bylaw No. 826, 2012

Bylaw No. 826, 2012, a bylaw to authorize the borrowing of up to $7,990,000 for the estimated cost of constructing the View Royal public safety building, was given three readings by Council on May 1, 2012 and was the subject of an alternative approval process. The pertinent information regarding this process was advertised in the Goldstream News Gazette on May 25, 2012 and May 30, 2012. The deadline for receipt of completed elector response forms was July 11, 2012 at 4:00 p.m.

I can confirm that 1,300 elector response forms were received by that deadline. As this number exceeds the threshold of 770 (10% of the estimated number of electors in View Royal (7,698)), then, in accordance with s. 86(8) of the Community Charter, I determine and certify that elector approval has not been obtained for Bylaw No. 826, 2012.

Council is not able to proceed with the adoption of Bylaw No. 826, 2012 based on this alternative approval process result.
