Intersection Improvement Options at Erskine Lane and Watkiss Way

WestUrban Developments Ltd. (WestUrban) held an open house on September 21, 2023 at 9 Erskine Lane. Notices of the open house were hand delivered to residences within approximately 400m of 9 Erskine Lane (Attachment #1 – Public Notice).

There were approximately 50 attendees (Attachment #2 – Sign-in Sheet). There were five members of the WestUrban project team in attendance. Poster boards displaying plans for the proposed roundabout and signalized intersection options were presented. Attendees were able to review and ask project team members any questions they had. Generally, most attendees favored the signalized intersection option.

Comment forms were also provided for attendees who wanted to document their concerns and opinion. Seven forms were submitted, six of which support a signalized intersection with one documenting specific design options for the signalized intersection (Attachment #3 – Comment Forms). It was discussed at the event that the next opportunity for public comments would be at the public hearing.

Public Open House

September 21, 2023 @ 5:30pm – 7:00pm (drop-in format) Location: 9 Erskine Lane (meeting to be held outdoors on the corner of Watkiss Way and Erskine Lane)

You are receiving this notice because you live at or own a property within 400m of 9 Erskine Lane. WestUrban Developments is hosting a public open house on Thursday, September 21, 2023, from 5:30pm-7:00pm (drop in format) to review and discuss changes to the intersection of Watkiss Way and Erskine Lane.

WestUrban is required to build a roundabout at the intersection of Watkiss Way and Erskine Lane. During the detailed design process, it became evident the size of the roundabout would impact the neighbouring properties and result in the loss of exisitng trees, vegetation and privacy hedges. As a result, WestUrban proposes to construct a signalized intersection at Watkiss Way and Erskine Lane as an alternative.

To do so, WestUrban requires approval from the Town of View Royal Council. The purpose of this open house is to address any questions or concerns residents have before this proposal proceeds to Council for consideration later this Fall.

AFTER SEEING THE PLANS, THE LIGHTS MAKE SENSE.

I fully support the option of installing lights at Erskine Lane and Watkiss Way.

Traffic lights are very straight forward — Red-stop, Green-go.

I SUGGEST THE TRAFFIC LIGHT OPTION IS THE WAY TO GO WITH GOOD POTENTIAL FOR FUTURE TRAFFIC CONTROL. LESS DISRUBTIVE TO CURRENT SITE.

Circular roundabout would not work

Traffic lights a much better idea with the high density of traffic that will happen with the Erskine Lane developments.

The blind corner towards the school on Watkiss Way is something to consider too as the road is hard to cross with daycare children and picking up our grandchildren from school. Lights would be much better for crossing.
