I just found out about the plan to increase the fee for type 2 suites. The only reason we have continued to pay for our type 2 suite is because of it being a selling feature. Our suite is currently family occupied and is not in the rental pool. We were told when this was implemented that it would be kept at a minimal fee just covering the administrative costs. Since there are just around 250 of these suites, I would like to know the actual breakdown of costs that justify raising the fee by 100%, an additional $25,000 per year. I am against this. We are the only municipality that charges such a fee. If the fee is raised, we will no longer renew our permit. We do not require it and financially, with significant raises in property taxes, frankly, we cannot afford the increase. We see no need for it other than it being a cash grab that will be absorbed into the general coffers.
